Covid-19 concerns have postponed the Summer Olympics and cases in Japan are on the rise.  This is on top of what's STILL going on at #FukushimaDaiichi.  Find out more about it right now, step-by-step:

STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
Now that the Summer Olympics have been pushed back by one year, what does that mean for #Fukushima?  Business as usual in the Japanese parliament:

STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
While everyone is keeping up with coronavirus numbers on the news, few realize that behind the scenes, #FukushimaRadiation becomes less and less of a concern:

STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
So when TEPCO said it would take 30-40 years to decommission the Dai-ichi plant in #Fukushima, what they really meant was it would take that long just to release the radioactive water, taking down the plant itself is going to take MUCH longer:

STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
What does Covid-19 do to nuclear power engineers?  The same thing as everyone else!  What happens when reactors are short staffed because of the virus, we’ll find out!

HEY #FUKUFIGHTERS!
In a follow up to last week’s “Fukushima 50” update, check out this interview with the special FX designer behind the movie and what it was like employing people in #Fukushima to help complete the work on the movie, interesting stuff:

#Fukushima who?  The race to Tokyo 2020 is coming down to the wire and Japan's Prime Minister's legacy depends on it.   Covid-19 isn't the only game in town, see for yourself step-by-step:

STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
The Olympic torch has arrived in Japan but with the Games start now in question due to Covid-19, the big plan to show off the ‘reconstruction’ of #Fukushima is now in question too:

STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
So get this, because Japan has insisted on lifting evacuation orders in #Fukushima Prefecture, courts are agreeing with TEPCO to pay victims of the nuclear disaster there LESS for their suffering:
AND now monies marked for renewable energy promotion are being diverted back to storage of radioactive waste in the prefecture as well, see how they do?

STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
Fairewinds Associates has been covering the #Fukushima situation from a different perspective since it began and Arnie Gunderson’s evaluation of how things have gone the past 9 years there is spot on, especially when it comes to what the nuclear industry has wanted this whole time - for us to forget about it:

STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
KEPCO, the other nuclear power heavy weight in Japan can’t do anything right so they have to shut down one of their still-active reactors because of unaddressed safety issues:

HEY #FUKUFIGHTERS!
The film industry has taken a hit when it comes to distribution of movies since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic which is a real shame timing wise for the new feature from Japan, “Fukushima 50”.  This dramatization of the events of 3.11.11 in Japan and the devastating after effects of TEPCO’s triple meltdown disaster at it’s Dai-ichi plant has been high on my must-see list since I heard it went into production.  If the trailer is any indication, it’ll be an emotional roller coaster for any #FukuFighter:

It was easy to forget about the 9th anniversary of the start of the #FukushimaNuclearDisaster this week with all the coronavirus news but we didn't!  Here's a wrap-up of the latest from Japan to catch you up, step-by-step:

STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
The beginning of the disaster marked the end of year 9 this week but uncertainty awaits the ‘recovery’ as the coronavirus starts a cascading effect on the process in #Fukushima:

STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
If TEPCO’s response to the nuclear disaster is any indication of how things will go with this coronavirus, the little guy is going to get screwed over big time:
At least in Sendai, some judges know what justice is about still:

STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
Want a comprehensive look at the current state of the reactors at #Fukushima Daiichi?  The #FukuFighters at SimplyInfo break it all down one-by-one so go get caught up:

STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
The amount of radioactive waste in our oceans is staggering and until we do something about it, it’s going to get worse:

HEY #FUKUFIGHTERS!
Other victims that we should never forget from the start of the #FukushimaNuclearDisaster are the sailors from Operation Tomodachi who are STILL struggling to have their day in court, 8 years later.  There is news about the proceedings though and don’t forget #FukuFighters, those sailors need our support so let’s give it to them!

As the 9th anniversary of the #Fukushima Nuclear Disaster fast approaches, it's more important than ever to keep up on the latest news out of Japan, step-by-step:

STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
Another ‘all-clear’ signal for a hot zone near #FukushimaDaiichi means more PR, less support for actual residents of Futaba:

STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
The 2020 Olympic Torch relay is starting soon but residents in #Fukushima aren’t thrilled to see their region being used as propaganda when so much needs to be fixed first:

STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
Decomissioning of the crippled reactors at #FukushimaDaiichi will go on during the Summer Olympics, IF there are Summer Olympics:

STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
The shape of wind energy is about get a big makeover, courtesy of Japanese innovation post #Fukushima:

A lot of problems still exist at the #Fukushima Daiichi plant site, more than you probably know about, until now.  Here's the latest, step-by-step:
STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says it’s okay to dump water from #FukushimaDaiichi into the ocean but public sentiment is strongly against in Japan:

STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
When they re-open areas in the evacuation zone of #Fukushima, it’s rarely reported how sparse support

STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
The coronavirus is effecting the recovery process at #FukushimaDaiichi in a way people probably never thought it would.  How long before it starts being even more problematic as the outbreak continues to spread:

STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
The cost of nukes has never made any sense but now that the industry is on it’s last legs, it seems dumber than ever to pour money into an uninsurable industry:
